M3 - NGC5272  
Canes Venatici

Discovered by Charles Messier in 1764, and resolved into stars by William Herschel around 1784		  
 
This cluster is one of the largest and brightest, and is made up of
around 500,000 stars older than the Sun. It is located at a distance of
about 33,900 light-years away from Earth and is about 200 light-years
wide. M3 has an apparent magnitude of 6.2, making it visible to the
naked eye under dark conditions. From a moderately-sized telescope, the
cluster is fully defined, individual stars are difficult to be
distinguished



Este cluster es uno de los más grandes y brillantes, formado por
unas 500.000 estrellas más viejas que el Sol. Se encuentra a una
distancia de 33.900 años luz de la Tierra y tiene 200 años luz de ancho.
M3 tiene una magnitud aparente de 6.2, siendo visible a simple vista en
cielos oscuros. Con un telescopio de tamaño moderado el cluster se
define completamente, si bien es difícil resolver sus componentes.
