Lynds Dark Nebulas surrounding IC1396 Elephant Trunk Nebula		  
 
These objects are part of the Lynds' Catalog of Dark Nebulae compiled by Beverly Turner Lynds in 1962. Dark nebulae are cold, dense clouds of interstellar gas and cosmic dust. They do not emit their own light; instead, they block or absorb the visible light coming from background stars and glowing emission nebulae behind them. This creates sharp, inky silhouettes that stand out brightly in deep-sky and narrowband astrophotography.

Lynds Dark Nebula (LDN) 1121 is a dark nebula in Cepheus. It is just northeast of the famous Elephant Trunk Nebula and, like the Elephant Trunk Nebula, is silhouetted against the large emission nebula IC 1396. LDN 1111 is the very dark globule at right. The wispy dark nebula trailing off it to the left is LDN 1124. The dark nebula at center left is LDN 1121, while LDN 1112 is in the upper center and LDN 1117 is in the upper left.

Estos objetos forman parte del Catálogo Lynds de Nebulosas Oscuras, recopilado por Beverly Turner Lynds en 1962. Las nebulosas oscuras son nubes frías y densas de gas interestelar y polvo cósmico. No emiten luz propia; en su lugar, bloquean o absorben la luz visible proveniente de las estrellas de fondo y de las nebulosas de emisión brillantes situadas tras ellas. Esto crea siluetas nítidas y de un negro intenso que destacan vivamente en la astrofotografía de cielo profundo y de banda estrecha.

La Nebulosa Oscura de Lynds (LDN) 1121 es una nebulosa oscura en Cefeo. Se encuentra justo al noreste de la famosa Nebulosa Trompa de Elefante y, al igual que esta, se recorta contra la gran nebulosa de emisión IC 1396. LDN 1111 es el glóbulo muy oscuro en la parte derecha. La tenue nebulosa oscura que se extiende a su izquierda es LDN 1124. La nebulosa oscura en el centro izquierda es LDN 1121, mientras que LDN 1112 se encuentra en el centro superior y LDN 1117 en la esquina superior izquierda.
